coming soon: '& the Lion'

This is a quick, color sketch of a lion... and a profile of sorts- he's from a comic strip i'm developing based on short, random statements used as facebook status updates that were about a lion.

evolution of an angry tiger

though not exactly a play by play since i go back and play with previous layers in photoshop, this will give you a pretty good idea of how i worked through this...

return of...

... it's the carpal-tunnel trees! only this time they aren't real!!

actually, instead of ink over fibrous watercolor paper, the wacom pen floats smoothly through photoshop... but still with a lot of back and forth twisting...

Bridefight Group Image

What began 3 months ago is approaching completion! now that all the images are done, I've only to put them all together and make the poster! :D

I'm up for the challenge!

Bridefight Members

Alright, I haven't gotten the poster together yet: i'm not even finished with the group image! but I did finish the individual pictures. I started with Jones, then did Faust, then Gem and XO almost simultaneously. the guys were easier than the girls (the girls have more stuff on) but I had the most fun working the skin on Gem's arms (i also had fun re-doing the line colors!) and the backgrounds were always enjoyable.
The original sketches for these were done a few months ago and were never changed. the group image had to be completely redrawn, but the errors in the four didn't bother me enough to change. they kind of do now though. the main 2 issues: XO's arms (and hands that were conveniently cropped out) look weird. Jones isn't smiling like everyone else... and incidentally, her face is a little long... I actually like drawing Gem and Faust... Faust because only his nose and mouth are showing and Gem because she has big bright eyes...

as for the poster, i'm working on it!

another matsudo

i think his horns look better... his has ram-ish horns... he's actually based on a picture from an artist who's website no longer exists... i'd base him on ico, but ico is a little too villager... and he has bull-like horns.

Matsudo

from 'walk in the park'
i'm still working on this guy. Matsudo is Higashi's best friend. i'm a little torn about his hair and horn color... he also has a tail that didn't make it into the image... (by the way, he's supposed to be leaning against a tree...)

J.Jones is not a Gothic Zombie and we love her.

okay, i can maybe see where you'd get the idea that jones is a little bit goth. she's based on a friend of mine, afterall. but she's not. what may be leading you astray, my faithful fan, is the bridefight motif. the two girls in the band are wearing torn-up wedding gowns. (the two guys in the band were supposed to be wearing something reminiscent of tuxedos - if you'll notice faust's little bow-tie in his close up picture - but that didn't pan out as well...) wedding gowns have, for some reason or other, become part of the goth motif aswell. maybe if i throw in a couple spoilers you'll feel better:

1. jones is wearing two different colored shoes
2. she's standing between xo and gem: both of whom are wearing pink in no small amount
3. i haven't decided the color of her guitar-like instrument, but the base color is a white.
4. part of the band-girls' image is to be two rival brides: jones wears dark colors but has a white "dress" on, gem wears bright colors but a black "dress".
5. if it's her individual backround that's adding to the disturbance, those are red, overlayed leaves - they reminded me of Japanese weddings, of which red is an important color. - the group background is currently a grayish color splattered with all manner of colors in leaf and star shapes that are too heavily overlayed to be distinguished. i really want something like a brick wall pattern in the poster - like they're playing in the back of some little club...

so please, don't hate on j.j. she's really a good person once you get to know her.

Bridefight Colo Time !!

(no, i did not spell that wrong...)

This is dedicated to my self-declared biggest fan (you know who you are!). These 5 images make up the "Bridefight Poster" that should appear on my portfolio blog in a week or two. But since I've been asked to reveal some sketches, here they are. These were originally pencil sketches in my sketchbook, i inked and laid them out in photoshop, they've been formatted to fit on standard printer paper so you can print them out and color them on your own. (i had intended to do this myself for the sake of evaluating colors, but i got tired of my colored pencils too quickly - the images are shrunken down from their original size, making for some tight spaces to color in...) but i trust you will sojourn on. (maybe send me a copy of your coloring work!)

happy coloring!

PS: for those who don't know (which is most of the world), Bridefight is a band in my own little universe of characters and is unfortunatly not real.
PSS: I say colo time instead of color time bacause that's how i name my files... why i'm too lazy to type on the 'r' is beyond me...

Break-Time fun with Bobbo II and Bigg

My two mannequins provide countless hours of distraction from my work. On the day this picture was taken, my computer was in a different spot, blocking them from view... well... almost.

Meanwhile, this new blog is meant to provide a sort of documentation for my other, portfolio blog. The intent is to post sketches and other visual information regarding the processes of the work that appears on the portfolio blog. This will help keep that blog from too much inbetween clutter, while also providing an outlet for a vast amount of previously unseen work. If there are any older works that you'd like to see preliminary sketches for, don't hesitate to ask for them: I have many sketchbooks on hand from my college years and would appreciate the interest.

And don't forget to tell all your friends...
